XIA, Yun (夏云), MD, PhD, graduated from Zhongshan Medical College of Sun Yatsen University and worked as a surgeon at Peking Union Hospital in Beijing before coming to the US in 1986. He had training in basic sciences at University of California, San Diego and received his MS and PhD at The Ohio State University (OSU). Now, he is an academic anesthesiologist working at the OSU Wexner Medical Center. Besides serving as the director of Global Health Education Initiates at the OSU College of Medicine, his daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, clinical patient care, clinical and basic science research, administrative duties, and teaching medical students, residents, and anesthesiology fellows. His main directions in clinical practice are obstetric anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and thoracic anesthesia. The focus of his clinical and basic science research is the effects of anesthetics on gastrointestinal functions. He also has leadership responsibilities in a couple of national and international academic organizations. He is recently promoted to be a full professor in his institution.
